Scottish Fabians is a self-governing section of the Fabian Society, the UK’s only democratic, members-led think tank. Founded in 1884, the Society is at the forefront of developing political ideas and public policy on the left. Scottish Fabians are affiliated to the Scottish Labour Party.

Scottish Fabians launched in Spring 2012 as the Scottish Labour Party came to terms with the challenge posed by the SNP and the forthcoming independence referendum. Now Brexit and the threat of a second referendum pose further threats and challenges for the left.

The scale of the challenge demands rigorous debate and radical ideas. Scottish Fabians hope to provide a space for that debate to happen.

We organise events and conferences around Scotland, all designed to provoke debate and allow a free exchange of views. We have also published a range of ideas, both in the form of traditional Fabians printed pamphlets and as online blogs and articles.

  1. Does this mean that you are still intrinsically tied to the Labour Party?
