Welsh Fabians
The Welsh Fabians are the home of the Fabian Society in Wales.
In July 2021, the Welsh Fabians adopted a formal constitution and elected its first executive committee. Presently, Catherine Fookes is chair and Estelle Hart is secretary of the Welsh Fabians.
There are serious concerns about the future of Wales in a new post-Brexit world and with a majority Conservative UK government. The Welsh Fabians will provide a calm, reflective space for exploration of that future. Dangers include the possibility of new restrictions on Welsh devolution, the vulnerability of our NHS and industries (including agriculture) to international trade deals, worsening of the already disadvantaged position of Wales within the Union, loss of EU investment and the implications of the general election result for Welsh and UK Labour.
In 2022, our objectives are to:
- Put forward policy options to the Welsh Labour government on a range of issues
- Put on events to debate key issues and come up with new policy solutions
- Raise the profile of the Welsh Fabians amongst the Fabian family
- Increase Fabian Society membership in Wales
Our Fabian MPs and AMs, members of the Labour and Co-operative Parties and unions and the public must all be part of this important debate.
